1.Sample ALL mediums BEFORE trying final designs..

Textured printing ink varied on each image creating a very uneven screen allowing a varied amount of ink through the screen.

2. Sample ALL screen layers BEFORE trying final designs

The combination of layers didn’t work as the flowers blended in to the background given a very cluttered/messy look.

3. Sample, Sample Sample !

I find screen printing very difficult as I am so messy and do not seem to be able to develop a system for handling screens and working out top and bottom of the screens.

I have 4 prints from this screen printing session  I have decided not to throw the prints away as I intend to use them for developing machine embroidery.

This has re enforced my desire to try new techniques next term, I have booked the knitting machine and the dye kitchen.

I cant work out how to use the pen tool or displacement maps but never mind until today I didn’t know what a displacement map was, some learning at least..

I dont think the sizing of the repeat is quite right ???

CAD lessons required urgently

1st print/layer  Antique gold  2nd print/layer Black , the black dye was pulled through the screen whilst the Antique gold was still wet, more pieces of silk remnants where added before the black was pulled though.

I was really pleased with the outcome, I thought this was a very interesting piece with the movement created by the antique gold. I decided to develop this image further and scanned it into to Photoshop and digitally printed it onto sublimation paper then heat pressed it onto viscose fabric, but I feel the black has lost its richness but as a development process it was very interesting.

Also to not to stop with 1 outcome,develop it further, experiment with images through various processes .

Project 1 Scale and repeating structures.

Working in groups of 4 to create a 2.5 m length of printed fabric using screen printing techniques. Using a collection of objects as source material.

First thought oh dear working in a group this could be hard going, I had concerns about my lack of ability and ideas would I good enough, would I be the silent member of the group!

Outcome completely the reverse! Our group worked very well together we where able to use each others strengths to create a very successful outcome, the project has increased my knowledge and confidence, enabling me to develop my own printing skills further.

Each member of the group was asked to create a number of drawings from the chosen subject “jewellery”

and bring the drawings in the next morning to create a collaborative piece. First thought oh dear what if my drawings are not good enough , reality my drawings were good enough several where used to create the piece.

Using drawing techniques from the workshop I could create drawings!

Learning to take forward –  I can do it, my confidence in my ability is begining to increase.

I missed the final colour selection as I was away in London at the knitting and Stitching Show but had discussed this with the group I was happy to let the group make the final decision

The design was coloured in, this helped to show the overall design but also enabled us to work out the layers for the kodatraces. This helped me enormously it was much easier to visualise each layer .
