For this outcome I decided to create a half drop pattern, using a paper method (I am sure it could be created on a CAD programme but I wanted to understand the mechanical aspect first, also I have no idea how to make Photoshop do what I want it too) As I thought I would be replicating the design many times I decided to print the beetle using a potato to create the body and to add legs and antenna later. Also I found it much easier to join complete shapes rather than lots of legs.
It then got a bit complicated …
Each segment was rotated re joined and the beetle print used to fill the space created in the new join.
I had several (more than several if I am honest) attempts to get this right, I found it really frustrating as I cant tell my left from my right and kept rotating segments in the wrong direction.
Finally got it right hurrah !!
Learning to take forward..
Keep trying .. don’t give up (the patterns nearly ended in the bin several times)
Simple shapes are easier to join
